The present building was opened in 1952. The St. Joseph's Elementary School was damaged in the Manchester Blitz in 1940. St. Joseph's RC Primary School was opened in its present form in 1983 following the merger of an infants school with the junior school on its present site. In 1997, the school had an enrollment of 194. Situated about a mile and a quarter from the city centre, the school is located in the parish of St. Joseph's.
