A group of baptists first started meeting in 1887 Longsight in an iron building at the corner of Slade Grove and Slade Lane. It was generally known as the "Tin Tabernacle".

The memorial stone for the Baptist Church on Slade Lane was laid in 1898 and the chapel opened two years later. The Sunday School, shown below on the left, opened in 1929.
